Therapists for college students near 02141
Led by Dr. Shahrzad Sims, a double Board-certified psychiatrist who completed her training at Harvard Medical School, the multidisciplinary team of therapists and medication management clinicians at Aster Mental Health is a full-service provider of medication management and therapy to treat depression, anxiety, bipolar, paranoia, PTSD, phobia, postpartum, and schizophrenia. Our offices also provide interventional psychiatry options for treatment resistant depression through TMS and Spravato. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive procedure conducted under the supervision of trained medical staff. Patients sit comfortably in a TMS chair that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression. Spravato (Esketamine) is a nasal spray administered in an outpatient setting under the supervision of a medical care team. Appointment requests, including those for new patients, can be made through our website, astermentalhealth.com, or by calling (617) 299-2238. Telehealth and in-person treatment is offered to patients throughout Massachusetts. For those that want to seek in-person treatment, we are conveniently located at 325 Wood Rd, Ste 209, Braintree, MA 02184, and 8 Essex Center Dr, Ste 110, Peabody, MA 01960 Aster Mental Health accepts most commercial insurance plans from Blue Cross Blue Shield, Optum, UnitedHeathcare, Tufts, and Harvard Pilgrim and can also see patients out-of-network.
Lumin Health is a psychiatrist-led mental health organizations serving young adults who feel stuck with depression and anxiety despite efforts with traditional methods. We provide two evidence-based options: esketamine (Spravato) — an FDA-approved, insurance-covered treatment — and ketamine therapy delivered in a carefully monitored setting. Each session happens in a private room with vitals tracked, standard two-hour observation, and a ride-home requirement to keep you safe. You set the pace; our team provides steadiness. Access matters, especially for students and early-career adults. Spravato treatment is insurance-covered at Lumin Health; we accept Medicare and most major plans in Massachusetts (Aetna, Anthem, BCBS, Cigna, Evernorth, Harvard Pilgrim, Optum, Point32Health, Tufts, United Healthcare). Our team handles prior authorizations and coordination so you’re not navigating forms between classes or shifts. Out-of-pocket costs typically range from $10 to $25, which is meaningful when the treatment typically costs $500+. Care is local and predictable: clinics in Woburn, Brookline, Newton, and Cambridge Massachusetts, flexible scheduling, and collaborative communication with your current therapist or prescriber. That structure helps ketamine treatment fit real life — exams, internships, family demands — rather than the other way around. Many young adults describe ketamine for depression as creating a window where rumination eases and possibilities feel closer. Spravato and ketamine treatment don’t cure depression, but they may offer rapid relief for some and a safer way to do deeper work with psychotherapy or behavioral support. What matters most is what feels possible to you now. If you’re exploring ketamine therapy or Spravato, Lumin Health will meet you with clarity, agency, and insurance-savvy support.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that creativity is a powerful tool for self-expression and healing. I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space where individuals can explore their emotions, break through barriers, and tap into their inner strength. Every person is unique, and my goal is to tailor my therapeutic techniques to meet the specific needs and preferences of each client. Expressive art therapy provides an alternative form of communication, particularly beneficial when traditional verbal expression may feel limiting. Artistic expression allows for the articulation of emotions, experiences, and narratives that may be challenging to express through words alone. The focus is on the process of creation rather than the end result, allowing for a more profound and authentic exploration of emotions.

Dr. Tara Cousineau is a licensed clinical psychologist with nearly 30 years of experience supporting high-achieving individuals who struggle with perfectionism, self-doubt, procrastination, imposter syndrome, and burnout. Her clients are often high achieving individuals who are outwardly successful but inwardly overwhelmed—neglecting their own well-being in the pursuit of achievement. She offers a warm, collaborative space to reconnect with what truly matters and build a life of greater ease and meaning. Dr. Tara’s approach is integrative and holistic, blending mindfulness, self-compassion, psychodynamic and narrative therapies, Internal Family Systems, and mind-body medicine. She believes every person possesses innate strengths that may be hidden by life’s pressures, losses, or traumas—and that therapy is a process of remembering wholeness, even when things feel messy or uncertain. In addition to private practice, Dr. Tara serves part-time as a staff psychologist at Harvard University’s Counseling and Mental Health Services (and as such cannot see currently registered Harvard students in her private practice due to conflict of interest). She maintains a small caseload of 8–10 clients at a time in order to provide personalized care. She especially enjoys working with clients who are motivated to grow between sessions and who seek to align their inner lives with their outer aspirations. Dr. Tara sees clients in person on Friday afternoons in Newton Highlands, MA, and offers telehealth appointments on Monday and Thursday afternoons. She has advanced training in Internal Family Systems, integrated care through the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine, and teaching certifications in Mindfulness Meditation and Mindful Self-Compassion. She is the author of "The Perfectionist’s Dilemma: Learn the Art of Self-Compassion and Become a Happy Achiever" and "The Kindness Cure: How the Science of Compassion Can Heal Your Heart and Your World," which reflect her deep commitment to compassionate, evidence-based care.

Do you spend so much time caring for other people’s needs that your own get lost in the process? Does it feel like everything will fall apart if you slow down? Being the go-to person can cost you a lot of anxiety, sleepless nights, and/or panic. With over 20 years of experience as a therapist specializing in anxiety, burnout, and relationships, we’ll work together to create a new way forward, with proven strategies you can implement daily to complete the stress response cycle, practice self compassion, and fully recognize your self-worth as separate from your accomplishments and/or other's opinions. No matter what you are going through, you can emerge as something greater. Submit your therapy request by email - erin@erinpcollinstherapy.com or visit my website to book a free 15 minute consultation call. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I am keenly aware of the courage it takes to reach out to a therapist. It is my hope to build a safe, strong, and productive connection with every person I work with. Therapy is about restoring and healing connections with oneself and others. To that end, I serve individuals, groups, couples, and families across the life span with a focus on individual and couples therapy. Working with college students and young professionals has been a consistent part of my work since 2010. I offer a free 30 min phone or zoom call prior to intake to help potential patients decide if I am an appropriate fit. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
I have extensive experience working with young adults, college and graduate students concerning life transitions, anxiety, depression, family and relationship issues and self identity concerns. I work closely with individuals to support them in managing their personal, family and academic challenges. I use an empathic, coaching style improving mood, executive functioning, work/life balance and their interpersonal relationship skills. At this time, all counseling is being done via teletherapy.

When you are choosing a therapist, finding the right fit really matters. My style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change. I recognize that therapy is not one-size-fits-all. For more than two decades, I have worked extensively with high school, college, and graduate students in both community mental health and private practice settings. I have also served as an instructor in Boston College's Mental Health Counseling program and a supervisor at the Brookline Community Mental Health Center where I have had the privilege of helping to train future therapists. I am a pre-licensure clinician and post-doctoral fellow in clinical psychology with Copernican Clinical Services. I have worked in numerous settings across schools, community health centers, and college counseling environments. I work with clients to create a highly specialized therapy experience that best suits their needs and facilitates personal and emotional growth. I often work with clients to manage and extinguish anxiety symptoms and live a fuller, more meaningful life. My therapeutic style focuses on an integration of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT) techniques. I have extensive experience with queer/LGBTQ+ individuals across the lifespan and including issues such as coming out, sexuality, LGBTQ+ family life, life transitions, HIV, and experience of gender roles and presentation. I work to help clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors impact their experience of the world and their lived identities. I strive to create a safe environment and my therapeutic style is informed by queer and anti-racist justice work.
I tend to work best with students who are struggling with relationships, attachment, and life transitions. Many of the people I work with notice patterns in their relationships feeling anxious, overthinking, fearing abandonment, homesick or feeling like they give more than they receive. Others may be going through changes in friendships, family dynamics, dating, or figuring out who they are and what they want. College and young adulthood can bring a lot of change, and sometimes those transitions can bring up deeper emotions or past experiences that affect how we connect with others. In therapy, I focus on creating a space where you can be open and honest without feeling judged. Together we explore relationship patterns, emotional responses, and what might be underneath them. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, build healthier relationships, set boundaries, and feel more confident navigating change.
