I am a licensed mental health counselor specializing in helping young adults navigate anxiety, depression, academic stress, relationship issues, and life transitions. Currently, my practice offers telehealth sessions, providing flexibility and convenience for clients. Before starting my private practice, I worked in various settings, including schools, residential programs, and community-based organizations. I am passionate about what I do, and my primary goal is to help clients build confidence, improve their overall well-being, and equip them with effective tools to handle future challenges and stressors. My approach to therapy is eclectic, blending Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and acceptance-based strategies to foster meaningful, positive change. Above all, I believe that a trusting, supportive relationship is at the heart of the therapeutic process. My style is warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental, and I am dedicated to providing a safe space where clients can feel heard, understood, and supported.
My practice has always been focused on serving the BGLTQ+ Community, especially trans & gender diverse people, and polyamorous people. I tend to see a lot of geeky and neurodivergent people. My work as a therapist is informed by early training in both psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxiety disorders and depression, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy. My approach draws from the applications of mindfulness and self-compassion in psychotherapy, as well as feminist approaches such as Relational-Cultural therapy. Ultimately, I believe it is the relationship that heals, as well as learning to be a kind friend to oneself. I believe that good mental health means knowing you have choices and making them consciously (not which choices you make). (Please note if contacting me: it will save time if you include your insurance company and whether HMO or PPO.)
Welcome! Do you currently struggle with any of the following: anxiety; low self-esteem; deep, sometimes inexplicable feelings of guilt; tough inner critic; difficulty saying no; feeling disconnected from others; heavy focus on wanting to make others like you; a nagging feeling you’re doing something wrong or there may be something wrong with you? The good news is, these are not inherent traits people are born with and you are not bound to eternally struggle with these things! This therapy will give you the opportunity to uncover the root causes of these and other struggles in order to make changes in the here-and-now. Grounded and raised in a Chinese immigrant and Vietnamese refugee family, my roots and experiences have amplified my passion to shatter taboos in the AAPI community. I am committed to raising awareness and access to spaces of healing to communities of color. I will offer you a culturally-responsive, collaborative space to share your story. I aim to apply an anti-oppressive framework at the heart of my practice; and care deeply about the impact of intergenerational and race-based trauma. I value authenticity, transparency, and humor in our journey! The complexities of juggling responsibilities as a student, employee, caregiver, etc., can be super exhausting and I'm here to tell you that I see you! You are more than just a person embedded in an institution and your emotionality should be heard and cared for.
College can be exciting, overwhelming, and everything in between. I specialize in working with college and graduate students who are navigating anxiety, academic stress, relationship challenges, identity exploration, life transitions, and the pressure to “have it all figured out.” Whether you’re adjusting to campus life, managing perfectionism, struggling with motivation, or feeling stuck, therapy can be a space to slow down and make sense of what you’re carrying. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and practical. You are the common denominator in your life, my aim is to help you navigate and understand the deeper patterns that shape your experience. My role is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to move through this time in your life with more clarity and confidence.
Hi! I am licensed psychologist specializing in college students and young adults. My clinical work focuses on anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), emotion regulation, perfectionism, and life transitions. I work with clients who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from their goals, helping them develop the skills and insight needed to create meaningful, lasting change. My therapeutic approach is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and integrates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I believe therapy is most effective when it is collaborative, individualized, and active. Together with my clients, I explore the patterns that contribute to distress while building practical, evidence-based strategies that foster greater psychological flexibility and drive values-based actions.
Welcome to Amethyst Counseling Services I'm Rachel Lorenzo-Ramirez, a bilingual Licensed Mental Health Counselor offering virtual therapy for students and young adults across New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Hi there! My name is Amanda and I’m grateful for your courage in taking this step. The college years can be a very stressful time due to all of the changes and transitions happening in your life. Whether you're looking for just a few sessions or long-term therapy, I believe healing can happen with the right knowledge, hard work and laughter along the way. I use EMDR, DBT, mindfulness, and life coaching in my therapy sessions. If you've read this far, I encourage you to reach out to see if we are a good fit.
Searching for a therapist can be one of the most difficult parts of coping, healing, and self-empowerment, because it's the first thing you must do. You must force yourself out of your comfort zone and out of whatever routine you've had before, to take the initiative and embark on a new path. When we're at our best, stepping out of our comfort zones can be daunting; when we're feeling vulnerable, it can seem nearly impossible. No matter what prompted you to take this first step, I'd like to be there for your second. I have a deep affinity for those affected by trauma, including sexual assault and combat, as well as extensive experience and desire to work with those with perinatal issues (such as post-partum depression), issues of gender and racial justice, childhood and teenage transitions, depression, and chronic illness. My therapeutic approach focuses on creating an empathic environment where you feel safe and relaxed, and where we can use every tool available to brighten your present and empower your future. This may involve playing a game or taking a walk as often as we spend time in the office.
