I view therapy as a collaborative, client-centered process in which I help clients explore difficult emotions, ineffective behaviors, relationships, and work to increase greater self-compassion and understanding. I value building a caring and safe relationship with my clients and use a great deal of humor in my work. I support young adults with a wide range of struggles and utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities. My experience consists of providing psychotherapy and neuropsychological testing in a variety of settings including schools, community mental health centers, outpatient clinics, partial hospitalization programs, and residential treatment facilities.

The client I do best with is the good kid in the family that never causes waves or the quiet kid in the classroom that is a great team member but never makes a fuss. I work best with the silent suffering - those who look just fine on paper and are out and about in their personal life. These are those folks who are too nice, always making excuses for bad behaviors in relationships and ultimately ending up feeling invisible and unloved. I do well helping these types realize their value and helping them assert themselves. I typically work with people who may not have a full blown addiction but might be suffering by drinking too much or keeping an eating disorder in secret. They are getting their pain out in unhealthy ways.

Hi, thanks so much for taking an interest in my practice. It takes great courage and awareness to come to the decision to reach out for support. I see clients in my office in Cambridge, MA, near Davis Square, and in Melrose, MA, as well as by teletherapy/videochat. I specialize in helping people to free themselves from the 'silent conversation' that we have with ourselves throughout the day. By understanding how this conversation influences our thoughts, feelings, and actions, it is possible to adapt it to feel more empowered in life. It is my hope that your therapy experience will feel comforting, meaningful, real, and effective in getting to the heart of your core concerns. I work from an integrative framework in a warm and interactive environment, drawing from holistic, cognitive, and psychodynamic influences to help people to reclaim a sense of choice and authorship in their lives. My background includes more than 25 years in clinical healthcare, school, and community settings working therapeutically with individuals, couples, and groups on a wide-range of issues causing acute and chronic distress. I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in diagnostic assessments and evaluations and psychotherapy. Within our practice, I supervise graduate level trainees who provide individual psychotherapy and assessment. We assess clients with a diverse range of clinical difficulties (e.g., Autism Spectrum, developmental/learning disabilities, psychiatric conditions, traumatic brain injury, ). As a clinician, my overarching goals are to help clients and their families assess for diagnoses that will inform treatment and advocate for supportive accommodations and/or services. I approach clinical work from a multicultural perspective and am strongly oriented with a humanistic, person-centered framework. Our clinicians bring experience, expertise and a team approach to diagnosing and treating. If an adult needs to see more than one clinician (e.g., individual, couples work), we work together to provide coordinated, comprehensive care.

Through a warm but focused conversational style, I help individuals, couples and families (adolescents and adults) by utilizing contemporary clinical research and theory to construct a collaborative and personally-tailored treatment plan aimed at symptom relief and enhancement of psychological skillfulness. Whether the core concerns are straightforward, like seasonal affective disorder (a short-term depression caused by winter), or more abstract and complex patterns of negative emotional states and self-destructive behaviors, I provide short-term and long-term treatment plans to meet your unique needs through a balanced and blended approach of insight-generating exploration and cognitive-social-emotional skills-building. I emphasize a solutions-oriented focus on present-day distress. On a session-by-session basis, I strive to concretely track goals, insights, and progress, and provide a consistent measure of clarity and relief. I have accumulated over seven years of professional experience working with adolescents and adults across residential, inpatient and intensive outpatient treatment settings, including rotations at NY-Presbyterian Hospital, Jacobi Medical Center, McLean Hospital, and Germane Lawrence. I have studied Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) under Marsha Lineham and, for over two years, applied DBT treatment to personality-disordered adolescents and adults, including interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness, and distress tolerance groups, 24/7 skills coaching, and participation in DBT training and supervision groups; I have studied Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) under Steven Hayes, and received over three years of doctoral training, supervision, and didactics in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety and depression. And he studied interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) under Greg Hinrichsen for grief in older adults. And I have received formal and advanced training in other research-based treatment protocols, including prolonged exposure (PE) for trauma and “stages of change” and other motivational interviewing frameworks for substance abuse and addictions.
