Therapists for college students near Portland, OR
Our world can be a scary place. It is no wonder so many of us are anxious and scared. At the same time, many of us have learned to respond to stressful and uncertain situations in ways that, while understandable, are unhelpful and can manifest as Anxiety, Fear, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders. In my therapy practice, I help people learn new ways to respond to their physiology, the challenges in their lives, and the anxiety they feel. As a psychologist, my first and most important goal is to help you feel seen and understood. You are doing the best you can with the brain you have, the tools you have learned, and the challenges you are facing, and the shame, embarrassment, and/or anger that manifests when you feel misunderstood becomes its own problem that can get in the way of change. Next, I want to help you develop more helpful tools to navigate the world, in ways that are grounded in self-knowledge, self-compassion, and self-confidence. I want to help you discover what really matters to you, and learn to take steps toward a life full of meaning, even when anxiety and/or OCD get in the way. We don’t have to wait for our mental health to be perfect to live full and meaningful lives.
We are committed to providing accessible, quality mental health and behavioral health therapy to the individuals and families we serve. Through peaceful office settings, and convenient telehealth services, we meet individuals, couples, families, and youth where they are — both physically and emotionally. We believe that healing begins with understanding each person's unique experience. That's why we create individualized treatment plans tailored to your specific needs, challenges, and goals. Our priority is to provide exceptional, personalized support in a comfortable environment where you feel truly heard and valued. Mental health care should never be out of reach. We're here to support you every step of the way, offering professional guidance and genuine care as you work toward lasting well-being.

You might be feeling stuck: disconnected from yourself, your relationships, or the kind of life you want to be living. Maybe you're navigating stress from high expectations or caregiving roles, or struggling to feel close to others even when you crave connection. You may carry pain from earlier experiences or feel like you've had to hide parts of yourself just to get by. Whatever brings you here, you're considering the brave and vulnerable work of change, and that is huge. I work with people who are ready to feel more grounded, more connected, and more like themselves. I bring a particular focus on working with LGBTQ+ and multiply marginalized clients navigating the emotional toll of invisibility, hypervisibility, or living in systems not built for them, but enjoy working with clients of all identities who may be feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. I am neurodiversity-affirming, use an attachment-based lens, and provide letters for gender-affirming medical services. You don’t have to go through this alone, and you don’t have to explain your existence before we can get to the heart of things. In addition to individual therapy, I offer CNM-inclusive relationship therapy. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy and an attachment-based lens to help partners feel safer, more seen, and more emotionally connected. We focus on shifting out of reactive cycles and into more secure, responsive ways of relating. I bring a warm, relational, trauma-informed approach that honors your wisdom and your goals. Together, we can explore what’s getting in the way, deepen your emotional insight, and create space for more authenticity, clarity, and intimacy in your life. When you feel safe and seen, amazing things can happen.

Many of the students I work best with are navigating big transitions—adjusting to college or grad school, balancing academics with athletics, managing relationships, or figuring out what comes next. You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or unsure of how to move forward. Some students come to me struggling with stress, burnout, or motivation, while others are working through challenges like past trauma, substance use, or relationship patterns that no longer serve them. I have a particular interest in supporting student-athletes and individuals dealing with performance pressure, identity, and the unique demands of competitive environments. Many of the people I work with feel stuck in old patterns and want to create meaningful, lasting change. In our work together, I focus on creating a space where you can be open, honest, and fully yourself without judgment. Therapy with me is collaborative—we’ll work as a team to better understand what’s going on and develop practical tools that fit your life. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, confident, and equipped to handle challenges now and in the future.
I practice relational, justice-oriented teletherapy rooted firmly in the belief that each person is the expert of their own life. I strive to center transparency, humility, solidarity, and autonomy in my practice. I am trained as a generalist, but I am especially interested in and experienced with substance use, identity development and exploration, queer and trans health, relationship and family of origin concerns, trauma, perfectionism, and climate-related distress. I also specialize in working with young adults and completed my doctoral internship at University of Oregon's Counseling Services. I offer individual teletherapy and WPATH assessment/letter of support for gender-affirming surgery. I welcome you to connect with me if you feel we might be a good fit!
Aloha, my name is Mahina. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and sole practitioner / owner of Honu Healing LLC, offering individual psychotherapy to adults of all ages and walks of life. Many of the people wanting my support are feeling burdened by anxiety, sadness, or grief, overwhelmed by a variety of stressors, or simply worn down by internal and external elements. Sometimes these experiences lead to self-defeating/sabotaging thoughts and behaviors, feeling disconnected from oneself or others, or struggling with cycles of shame and self-doubt. While these challenges are deeply human, they often impact our relationships, sense of security and identity, ability to be our authentic selves, and our capacity to fully function. It is my heartfelt honor to support individuals through current or lifelong challenges. I specialize in helping adults navigate traumatic experiences, grief, transitions, spirituality, and stress related to school, work, or relationships. I am here to help and guide you with effective, lasting solutions to persistent struggles. My approach is tailored to your unique needs and goals. I utilize trauma-processing methods that engage somatic awareness, your intrinsic wisdom, and inner resources. We will explore habits that are not helpful in your relationships with yourself or others. I will help you reclaim your agency with empowering tools and knowledge and guide you toward applying this in your daily life in self-affirming, embodied ways. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, engaging, gently challenging, and often playful. With reverence for your intrinsic dignity and wisdom, I trust your compassionate capacity to heal and connect with yourself and others. I partner with you using proven methods that go beyond traditional talk therapy and employ your inherent strengths and wisdom. It takes courage to entrust others to ally with you along your sacred journey. With my steadfast help, you will be guided through a journey of brave explorations fostering a kinder relationship with yourself. I am a board licensed clinical social worker (LCSW/LICSW) in the state of Oregon and Massachusetts with a particular passion for working with youth and adults navigating life transitions. I have advanced training in perinatal (pregnancy and postpartum) mental health and am honored to support you on the profound journey to parenthood. Therapy is not about “fixing” or “changing” who you are; it is an ongoing process of self-reflection and discovery. Together we will work to identify areas of your life that are not working and make shifts towards well-being. I work from a relational model and primarily use acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and elements of internal family systems (IFS). Please explore my website to learn a bit more about who I am and what services I can offer. If you feel like we might be a good fit, please fill out some information about yourself and I will reach out to you for a consultation.

College can be a lot. You’re figuring out who you are and what you want, while also trying to keep up with classes, relationships, responsibilities, and everyone’s expectations—including your own. Sometimes things that felt manageable before suddenly don’t, or experiences from your past start showing up in ways you didn’t expect. I enjoy working with students who want a place to slow down, be themselves, and make sense of what they’re feeling. You don’t need to have the right words or know exactly what you want from therapy. Maybe you know something needs to change, or you just want to understand yourself better. We can start there. I’ll meet you with warmth, curiosity, and respect for who you are and what you’ve been through. Together, we can explore what’s getting in the way, notice what you need, and help you feel more connected to yourself and the life you want to create.
College was supposed to be fun, exciting, adventurous! All you seem to feel though is dread, lost, on edge and alone searching for your place in the world. College is the perfect time to work towards who you want to be for the rest of your life and I am here to help!
